The Divine Melody

When music touches the heart

It becomes Lord Krishna’s melody!

That plays on the flute that is your heart

And wakes up the Radha!

As He pours His Love into the pores in the flute

Creation, Preservation and Destruction happen simultaneously!

And Radha merges with Krishna

Bathing in the Ganges of His Love!

And flowing in love towards all Creation!

Paradise Lost becomes Paradise Regained

O Krishna! Your Love sustains me moment-to-moment

It is the balm for the wounds that hurt me!

It is the Oorja for my mind

That cleanses and vaccum-cleans within!

It is the Divine Raaga

That enchants me!

And nourishes me!

Heart, mind and soul!

O Lord! Your Love can be experienced  but cannot be defined

For words are too less to do justice to it!

Thank you! My Lord! for this gift of lifetimes…of yugas….

Thank you for coming down to Earth in the finite

To give us a glimpse of the Infinite!

Nowadays the above in an oft-repeated word

It’s on the lips of child, man, and woman!

It has led to devastation of life and property!

It has orphaned many, has made life a nightmare for many!

But, then, when one looks at it in a ‘bigger light’

One realizes that it has also led to ‘creation’!

Yes! It has led to creation of new bonds of love, kinship and universal brotherhood!

It has brought neighbour and neighbour together!

Yes! It’s brought neighbour and neighbour together!

Such neighbours as had always led a ‘cat and dog’ life!

The paltry differences have been forgotten

For a global cause!

This awareness lights up a spark of hope in me!

That all is not lost yet! Man can redeem himself!

Or, if he forgets this fact, God and Nature come to his aid!

For, by apparently taking away human lives…

1.Take me O Lord coming as Yama! Here am I waiting for You!
My palanquin is waiting outside; its bearers in anticipation
Of the auspicious journey to my real Home!
They are blessed who’ll be instrumental in uniting You and Me!

2.The waiting has been long enough!
I am getting tired of waiting, waiting, waiting!
The longer I wait, the more do I have to bear
All the tirades, homilies, tall praises for you, and, vain attempts to turn me away from You!

3. Till now, patient have I been
Long have I borne happily all these burdens
Of evanescent joys and sorrows, and, worldly relationships!
Playing a role has become almost impossible, now!

4. ‘Almost’ I say, because, I have to continue my part
Till such time as You direct me otherwise
No longer am I happy and enthusiastic in playing my role
The actor is no longer in…

As I sat by the riverside
I looked into the water
Throwing one pebble after another into it
Each pebble made a disturbance in the water

Each , as it touched the water
Brought a disturbance but only on the surface
And a bubble or two came up
But to disappear in no time!

So also as the little mind during its journey
Hits against imaginary walls it perceives, and hence experiences
Between it and the Big Mind
Walls on its way that thwart its progress towards its destination
It makes an effort to break each
It breaks one and another stands in its place

This happens during most of its journey
The river of the little mind experiences disturbances in its flow
The thought bubbles come up and disappear in it
But unlike the bubbles in the Big Mind
For they set forth the chain of thought , word…

When you read the title of this poem

You may start thinking about your profession!

But, then, that’s not my purport in penning down these verses!

It’s just to ‘get you ready’ to start ‘thinking’!

Thinking, of course, about alternate answers to this query

And, you will be surprised to find that

As soon as the question lodges itself firmly within

An answer comes up, an answer in one or many lifetimes!

And what comes up goes as follows

What are you? What are you?

“You are”, you’ll tell me what you think of yourself at that time!

And, to look more deeply into this

Let’s list down all that You are not!

You are not what others think of you!

You are not what you think of yourself!

You are not what you had been earlier!

You are not what you’ll be tomorrow!

You are what you think of…

On Mothers’ Day

“Amma! Amma! Amma!”My little ones held their hands in their tiny ones and called me the first time they started speaking! That was one of the most beautiful moments in my life.I relived those moments when I saw my granddaughter speaking her first few words calling her mother!

What can be a more unconditional relationship of this world that that of the mother? If in any relationship of this world, unconditional love is possible, it can be only that of the mother for her child….not even the other way around (unless it is a story of Divine Love)

Generally speaking no one in this world can take the place of the mother….not even God himself.

But , it may happen in a seeker’s life that every relationship becomes a bondage . Then he or she looks for, thirsts for, yearns for, longs for, cries for, pines for such unconditional love as it is of the mother for the child, but with a difference … that…it will not become a bondage but be a bond of eternal Love, Peace, Bliss and Faith. And such seekers are very fortunate who are able to experience such a bond with the Divine…in the Formless and/or in the Form he or she believes in and may have experienced as Divinity Incarnate! And the seeker-infant experiences the unconditional love of the Divine Mother in every situation in his or her life…every day, every moment! The seeker feels that the Mother is with him or her unconditionally….when he or she falls, She picks her up and comforts her; when he or she errs, She chides and punishes , if required, but to reform and not to condemn! When he or she is joyful and wants to talk to Her and play with Her, She becomes his or her companion . When he or she is in sorrow, She comforts her at times, and lets her be… to come out of it stronger and wiser .
The ultimate relationship, though , it is generally said and experienced by the wise, is that of the Radhe-Krishna experience or the Beloved experience, I feel it is only the third last one! For, the second last experience is that of the seeker experiencing the mother in the Divine. And, the ultimate experience, according to me, is that of the seeker experiencing God as his or her Divine Child…whom he or she had conceived and borne in the womb of the consciousness for lifetimes and yugas, in the cycle or cycles of all the eighty lakh species that he or she may have embodied himself or herself in…. in the quest for this God-experience.Even in the experience of the Divine as the mother, there are expectations, disappointments, anger, doubt, rebellion and all that experience that the child must have gone through with his or her biological mother.

But, When the seeker feels like mothering the Divine, he or she becomes truly unconditional….no expectations, no disappointments, no disillusionment, no heartbreak, no loss of trust, no doubts, no anger, no retaliation…..even if all these crop up, they don’t stay for ever… just as they never do even in a biological mother’s heart! It is the WONDER OF WONDERS!

Prostrations to the Divine Mother, who took human form, as Maa Vishalakshi to give birth to my Guru. She is the Shakthi Incarnate, the Power Supreme, who mothers not only my Master, but all flora and fauna and all Creation. One can’t understand Her but One can experience or at least imagine what such Love must be that flows in the Mother’s Heart for All as Her children , being a witness to all that each of us think, speak and do, on our path of evolution ….to reach our known or unknown destination…to rest for Ever in Her All-Embracing Lap!She gives us her message to man to grow from one relationship to another ….to finally be a mother at heart, to one and all…just like Her!On Mothers’ Day, as a tribute to all mothers, biological and otherwise, I have this to say…that…God has created man in His Own Image, but in giving man the ultimate experience of His Infinite Love, He has assumed the mother’s image!

Hail to all Mothers! ( Note: This is not addressed exclusively to biological mothers, but to all human beings, man or woman, girl or boy, who have a mother’s heart! }

Time – In a Nutshell

When we get to ponder on ‘time’

We remember the time ‘by the clock’

We think of the time we take to reach our office, school, etc.

We also think of the time that has passed by, and the time yet to come – the Past and the Future!

When we get bored doing something

Listening to a soporific lecture, or, bored at a social function – an unavoidable social commitment

We keep looking at the time

We feel it’s moving a ‘snails’ pace’!

When the lover waits impatiently for his Beloved to come

When a student waits eagerly for the results to be declared

When passengers wait for a delayed plane to take off

We have a similar experience!

But, when one is in the company of his Beloved

When one doesn’t want to part with his beloved

One feels that time is moving too fast!

One wishes…

Capital punishment has been a burning issue of dispute

Yes! A burning issue of dispute in the courts of law and justice!

Be it the gallows, the electric chair, hanging till death, or, point-blank shooting!

The question is – Has man the right to punish so?

The deserter is said to deserve capital punishment
The deserter is the one who runs away from the battlefield!
But, then, this world itself is the biggest battlefield that’s every been!
And the deserter is the one who commits suicide!

The one who deserts this battlefield of life
Is the guiltier of the two, as mentioned above!
For, the one who commits suicide violates the laws of God and all Existence!
Do you think he deserves capital punishment?

Of course, you can’t give him capital punishment of the four discussed earlier!
These are possible only when one is alive!
Anyway, you and…

It was one of those moments in my life
When I was sitting by a lake
And watching the ducks waddling in it
How graceful they looked and how white they appeared, ‘within’ and ‘without’!
I mused a while on the wonder of God’s Creation!

My thoughts were abruptly broken by a wounded bird which fell at my feet!
Just a gunshot and that ended the life-story of the bird on its flight!
Man kills cow or bird or animal
Be it for pleasure, or, be it for food
All amount to the same……man still lives in the old way “Might is right”
And forgets that “ our rights end when others’ rights start”!

I picked up the bird and kept it in my lap
Gently did I caress him and soothe him in his moment of agony
For he was half-dead or half-alive, and in pain!
I felt sad…

My friend and I were taking a stroll the other day
And, she called out to me “LOOK! How the silkworm has made the cocoon
And has encased itself in it in self-defence!
But will man allow it to grow into a moth and break out of the cocoon!
I am sure not, for, he can’t do trade in it!

What if he waits for the moth to break out?
Then the silk will not be worth it! For, it will not be in strands!
So, he collects the cocoon with the worm inside it
And boils it and takes out the silk, but kills the worm!

Is man’s design coming in the way of ‘Nature’s design’ here?
Is n’t it a sin to trick the worm and take out the silk to make himself richer?
Or, is it also part of the ‘balance of Nature”?”
She asked me and…
